WandaVision Review: NO SPOILERS

 Hey, Shawmba here...

The last nine weeks Disney+ graced us with Marvel's first TV show set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This show would take place after Avengers Endgame and before Spider Man: Far from Home. The show, titled "WandaVision" would captivate fans and prove to us that Marvel is only just getting started with showing how deep they are willing to go to provide amazing content. Below will be my review of the show WITHOUT SPOILERS (A spoiler review will be coming soon).

WandaVision is a story about Wanda Maximoff, funny sitcoms, and grief. Not even one minute into the first episode and you already have questions like "why is this in black and white" and "just where are we?" But the biggest question you have is "how is Vision here?" Vision died, twice, in Avengers Infinity War; the first time Wanda killed him so Thanos could not get the mind stone. The second time, well, Thanos kind of reversed time and ripped the mind stone out of his head in front of Wanda and then erased half of life in the universe. So how the F#&% did we end up here? And that is where WandaVision succeeds in my eyes. The show sets to answer many questions and provide more character development for Wanda and show that she has not had a great time within the MCU since her introduction; which is juxtaposed by the happiness she is feeling on WandaVision.

You get to meet her neighbors and various people from Westview, New Jersey (where this show takes place) and start to see that everything is not what it seems (couldn't tell right lol). After letting some time pass after the finale of the show, I can confidently say that there are not many MCU titles that are ahead of WandaVision, and has set the bar high for future MCU TV shows like "Falcon and the Winter Soldier" and "Loki." These shows being weekly instead of all episodes helped its longevity and fueled various fan theories throughout the nine weeks.

If I had to rate the show from 1-10, here would be my breakdown:

  • Standalone as its own show: 9.1/10
  • As a production within the MCU: 9.3/10
  • Compared to other MCU titles: 9.4/10

When making my rating, I did not include any Avengers movies as I deem that unfair since they incorporate various heroes and are designed to be bigger in scope than other MCU titles (like what can beat Infinity War or Endgame lets be real). The writing for this show was breathtaking; it reminded me of how Guardians of the Galaxy was able to tell very emotional stories and still maintain its goofy and funny humor. The music is also fitting, and nothing truly feels forced that is in the show, a luxury that comes from some explanations will occur in Doctor Strange 2.

If you are on the fence about starting it or don't know if its something you like, watch it if you like the MCU or if you want a compelling story and journey about a character you did not think you would fall in love with, and grow along side with. I cannot recommend WandaVision enough.

PSA a spoiler review will be coming at a later date so stay tuned for that. Until then, talk to you later!
